Incident Command Center

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community Mobile Unit is equipped to function as an Emergency Command Center. It contains space and technical capabilities for tactical planning for coordinating services in case of a large-scale event or emergency.

The Mobile Unit’s emergency response component includes radio, telephone, satellite, and video recording of the emergency scene as a part of the command center functions. During the Republican National Convention, the Mobile Unit, parked outside the Xcel Energy Center, was used as the Mobile Incident Command Center by the Saint Paul Fire Department. The Mobile Unit was the headquarters of the fire and emergency medical personnel and was used for planning and response.

We appreciate the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s generosity, allowing us to use this state-of-the-art vehicle,” Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman said. “This convention is really a regional event, and the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux’s participation demonstrates the strong support all the communities in the region provide each other during historic moments.”

The Mobile Emergency Command Center has been used by a local SWAT Team and the Morrison County’s Sheriff’s Department for training. During the annual SMSC Wacipi, it is used as a command center and first aid station. It is also used for search and rescue and other trainings around the state.
