Prescribed Burns Conducted

News Date:
April 22, 2016

Prescribed burns are an intentionally lit, controlled fire used by land managers to mimic natural fires and are conducted during the early growth stages of non-native/invasive vegetation species. These burns are a preventative measure taken to burn vegetation that poses a potential fire risk in the warmer, drier months of the year. The timing of the burns is completely dependent upon weather conditions such as relative humidity, temperature, and wind speed and direction.
